How can I download data from the Gender Data Portal?

The information presented on a given topic, country, region, or indicator page can be downloaded in a variety of formats to meet your needs. Unfiltered data can be downloaded as CSV files, allowing you to conduct your own analyses and create your own visualizations. You can also download custom data tables on Indicator Pages based on the filters you set for a visualization. If you are more interested in the visuals, those can be downloaded as PNG and PDF files. All these pages can also be shared on social media or email so that others can learn alongside you.

Full Dataset: To download all data available on the Gender Data Portal at once, click on “Download the full dataset” on the Home Page and the data will download automatically. Please note it is a large dataset so it may take some time to download.

Indicator Pages: There are two ways to download indicator-specific data. To download all data associated with the indicator (all filter combinations, all economies, all years), choose CSV or Excel in the top right corner of the page under the navigation search bar. Alternatively, to download only the data that is shown in your customized visualization, scroll down to the Data Table and click Download the Selected Input. This means if you have filtered for females in specific economies, only the female data for those economies will download. This is the same data displaying in the Data Table below the visual explorer.

Country or Region Profile: Each Country or Region profile allows you to directly download the data for all indicators and years for the selected Country or Region. Each profile can also be downloaded into a PDF and easily used externally, for example by attaching it to a report annex. They can also be shared via email and social media channels.

Topic Pages: Each Topic page also allows you to directly download the data for all indicators within the topic for all economies and years. Each Topic page can be downloaded into a PDF or shared via email and other social media channels.

API and DataBank: To further explore the data, advanced users can access the data through the API endpoint or link to the DataBank which can be found on all indicator, country, region, and topic pages. To learn more about the API endpoint and how data can be accessed using statistical and programming software applications, view the “Ways to access and cite data from the Portal” section of the Help page.
